My Career History & Timeline

Here's a look at a few highlights throughout my life.

  1. 1988

The Spark That Started it All

While I took interest in computer technology in elementary school (I was addicted to Oregon Trail, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, LOGO and BASIC), my 7th grade technology teacher flew me and two other students to Washington DC to see a computer tradeshow.

  2. 1989

    A Coder is Born

I began taking computer programming seriously, learning every DOS command. (I believe there were 72 commands at the time!) Created my first funtional program using BASIC, later converting it into QuickBASIC.

  3. 1995

    Landed my first I.T. position

    Major Achievements

Excelled from file clerk to creating asset allocation models for affluent clients at a full service brokerage firm. Also automated new account opening procedures from manual applications and analog faxing to digital forms and electronic transmissions.

    Strengths

    Wealth management
    Financial technology (FinTech)
    Business automation
    Cyber security

  4. 2002

    Founded Toneee, LLC

    Services Offered

Initially known as Toneee.com, I focused primarily on web design- especially using Macromedia (Adobe) Flash, e-commerce and social media marketing. I got my start a year prior as a freelancer, designing BlackPlanet.com profile pages. I realized I could use the same skillset for businesses by creating linked web pages.

    Valuable Leasons

I learned that we were primarily conducting business-to-business (B2B) commerce; our clients were primarily business owners and corporate managers. I also learned that small business owners did not fully understand how important it was to get online.

  5. 2009

    Setting The Tone

A year after the Great Recession, I realized that I could not soley rely on web development and related products/services for revenue. I decided to pitch a "reality talk show" called Setting The Tone (STT) to Atlanta-based networks. While I never filmed the actual television show, STT gained a cult-like following on Facebook and I became known as "Dictator".

Setting The Tone on Facebook was full of interaction, generating thousands of comments per day from members of serveral linked niche groups. Niches included FLO (For Ladies Only), STToneball (NFL.com-based fantasy football), STT Chapter One (virtual book club), STT North, South and DMV (monthly Internet meetups), Flatline (24/7 comedy memes), Ventilation (for our complainers), Cuddle Buddies (for our lovers) and our live podcast WSTT.

  6. 2013

Setting The Tone Radio is born

STT was a great social outlet because it was like watching reality television with real Facebook friends. Yet, I was hoping to see more positivity, so four of my friends and family helped me launch a successful live podcast called Setting The Tone Radio (WSTT). Our first episode aired on June 20, 2013, and we lasted several years. Topics ranged from police brutality and racism to mental illness and domestic violence. Live callers poured in from all over the nation and overseas and we were downloaded more than 27,000 times total on BlogTalkRadio, Apple iTunes, Spotify and other podcast platforms.
  7. 2014

    Morris Chestnut Sets The Tone

American Family Insurance sponsored an amazing contest to collaborate with Morris Chestnut and air a short film at the American Black Film Festival. Out of tens of thousands of contestants, he chose my childhood story to inspire his directorial debut. The short film is called Brakedown and I was given film credit for the work. I credit him for planting the seed that flourished to me pursuing a career in television and film.

  8. Lights, Camera, Action!

I dipped my toe into the television and film industry as an extra (background actor). After performing a small special effects role in The Originals, I realized I could do this forever! I quickly signed up for acting classes and trained with Nick Conti Proactor's Studio for three years. I continued to perfect my craft, primarily landing law enforcement and military roles. I continued to work as a stand-in and other crew roles to stay in the loop with major productions such as P-Valley at Tyler Perry Studios.

  9. 2018

    Setting The Tone Media Group

Inspired by the major productions filmed in Atlanta, I decided to start my own.

    Magick Boyfriends

A cute romedy about four friends turned witches who use their newfound powers for love.

    The Guppy Life

Initially animated by Toneee, we plan to shop this original creation by Gerald Brown to major studios.

    Production Services

We collaborate with Toneee to create production quality social media and TV commercials.

    Talent Acquisition

We use industry tools to help locate talent including actors, crew, models and influencers.

  10. 2021

    Looking Forward For More Opportunities

This year, I am focusing on motivating people to set their own tone. I will continue to speak to tweens, teens and young adults to inspire them to be the best version of themselves every day. I will also hold seminars and online training on entrepreneurism.
